After launching the service in early 2022 for postpaid customers, América Móvil, a subsidiary of Telcel, has announced that the 5G network will be available for prepaid customers beginning on Monday, April 24.
Telcel is the second company to offer 5G service for prepaid contracts, following Movistar. With Telcel, users will be able to utilize the network for less than 100 pesos.
” Technology is for everyone, which is why our system Friend is inclusive. It’s already 5G, just like our postpaid plans,’ said América Móvil CEO Daniel Hajj.
For less than 100 pesos a month, 68 million Mexicans can join the 5G network.
The mobile phone provider explained that with this new wager, approximately 68 million prepaid users will have access to the fifth generation network in the majority of the country.
According to the company, 5G coverage is presently available in 104 cities across the country, after announcing the deployment of this technology in 18 cities at the beginning of last year.
Telcel emphasized that with access to this new mode, its more than 68 million prepaid users will be able to experience faster navigation speeds and instant access to services and applications.
” To enjoy the benefits of the 5G Network, users must have one of the more than 80 devices compatible with the new technology, which are available for prices starting at 4,490 pesos, as well as verifying that the SIM card on their phones is version 6.2 or later and being within a 5G ” zone, according to a statement signed by the company’s president.
Red 5G will be accessible on all recharges.
Telcel informed its users that all of its service plans already include all of the benefits provided by the 5G network, meaning that those who recharge 20 pesos (the lowest cost offered by the company) can take advantage of the navigation speed provided by the fifth generation network, which is up to 100 times faster than the 4G network.

Telefónica Movistar México launched its 5G services, both prepaid and postpaid, at the end of the previous year, becoming the first provider to offer services in the early payment mode. Telcel and Telefónica Movistar are the only two carriers in the country to offer prepaid 5G service.
