The venture capital firm co-founded by Ashton Kutcher and music manager Guy Oseary seeks to invest in “category-defining” artificial intelligence companies.
The VC firm announced that it has concluded the nearly $240 million oversubscribed Sound Ventures AI Fund. The fund intends to invest in businesses utilizing AI’s foundation model layer. OpenAI, Anthropic, and StabilityAI are currently included in the fund’s company portfolio. Kutcher, Oseary, and Effie Epstein serve as general partners for Sound Ventures.
According to the partners, AI technology has “reached a stage of usability across enterprises and consumers that is driving significant growth,” and the Sound Ventures team has experience in two industries central to generative AI: technology and entertainment.
This may be the most important technology since the internet.
Kutcher said in a statement, “We believe this is potentially the most significant technology since the advent of the internet.” “The foundation model layer companies are defining the category, and they have the ability to transform enterprises and daily life, in our opinion. This is a discussion we wish to have.”
Oseary added, “We anticipate that AI will play a significant role in everything we do, including the entertainment industry, which we understand well. The companies we are investing in will be at the forefront of this powerful innovation, and Sound Ventures is thrilled to bring our unique experiences and connections to support these AI foundational platforms responsibly.
Epstein stated that Sound Ventures has been investing in AI for the past decade and that “we believe that this historical moment will determine the trajectory of this technology.” Our team is well-positioned to continue investing in and assisting exceptional founders who are shaping the future with artificial intelligence.
Alongside Sound’s early-stage funds, Sound Ventures AI Fund will invest. Sound Ventures was founded in 2015 and manages more than $1 billion in assets; the firm has previously invested in Airbnb, Uber, Flexport, Brex, GitLab, Airtable, Affirm, Forethought, and You.com.
