The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to eight Pasadena Unified School District high school seniors who were chosen as the 2023 ROSE Scholars.
Six of the students attend Marshall Fundamental Secondary School, while John Muir and Rose City secondary schools account for the remaining two.
Citizens Business Bank’s ROSE Scholars program is designed to assist students in the community flourish and realize their full potential.
The following individuals have been named ROSE scholars:
- Arleth Angeles – Marshall Fundamental Secondary School
- Stephanie Barcenas – Marshall Fundamental Secondary School
- Naomi Blas – John Muir High School
- Katelyn Castillo– Marshall Fundamental Secondary School
- Valeria Hernandez – Marshall Fundamental Secondary School
- Amina Malone – Marshall Fundamental Secondary School
- Diana Sanchez – Rose City High School
“Here at the Tournament of Roses, we celebrate creativity, and the 2023 Rose Scholars are proof of that,” said Alex Aghajanian, president of the 2024 Tournament of Roses. “We are delighted to recognize these students and award them scholarships to pursue their interests. Thank you, David Brager and Citizens Business Bank, for your partnership and for providing the Tournament of Roses Association with the opportunity to support these extraordinary youth.”
As part of the application process, students were asked to submit creative work that reflected their future aspirations, ambitions, and goals. In addition, they were required to write a one-page reflection describing their emotions about the piece, provide still images of their work, and create a video describing their inspiration. In lieu of a minimum GPA, applicants were required to submit a recommendation from a teacher, coach, counselor, or member of the community.
Rose Scholars are eight deserving Pasadena Unified students who receive a $20,000 award.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association and the Tournament of Roses Foundation are committed to having a positive impact on the Pasadena community through charitable contributions, volunteerism, and community involvement. The Association has partnered with Citizens Business Bank for ROSE Scholars and other signature community programs as part of this effort.
