If your sweet taste is seeking something moist, delightful, and scrumptiously sweet, a new bakery at the Silver Moon Plaza close to Lewisburg provides exactly what you need.
Pieces of Cake, located at 155 AJK Blvd, provides a variety of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, macarons, cake pops, cake bars, brownies, and cheesecake that is out of this world.
Angel Ortiz, who opened the bakery with his wife Isabel Vasquez, stated, “The bakery has been a long time coming.”
Ortiz stated that the concept for a bakery originated during the commencement of the COVID-19 epidemic.
“I was employed at Walmart when I tested positive. I was reaching the end of my quarantine time when my wife with COVID, so I was required to remain in isolation for many additional days. “I had no revenue for four weeks,” said Ortiz.
“At the time, Isabel was expecting our third child, and as soon as her quarantine period ended, she went into labor,” he stated. “Thereafter, I took a maternity leave from Walmart, who was quite generous in granting me time off to assist Isabel with the new baby and the older children. Yet we continued to struggle financially.
“Because Isabel can bake, this whole thing began.”
At a while, the pair owned a stall at the Lewisburg Farmer’s Market.
“We began by selling loaves of bread, such as Isabel’s delicious orange-cranberry bread,” Ortiz explained. “Eventually, we want to sell cakes, so Isabel prepared 40 or 50 cakes to sell at the farmers market, but we only sold three.”
At that time, Ortiz traversed downtown Lewisburg. More than six hours were spent selling his wife’s baked goods door-to-door. There were just three more sold.
Ortiz stated that his wife has a talent for creating delicious desserts with unusual tastes. He has an aptitude for sales.
The pair began selling cheesecakes at the Selinsgrove Farmers Market shortly thereafter.
“That’s when the business really took off as we continued to expand our clientele and customers began asking Isabel’s different goods,” Ortiz explained. People from as far away as Williamsport and Bloomsburg traveled to the Selinsgrove Farmers Market to buy Isabel’s cheesecakes.
As their business grew, Vasquez also began making cupcakes and began receiving bespoke orders.
Ortiz explained, “It was Isabel’s goal to create a brick-and-mortar business to service their consumers.”
Ortiz saw a vacancy at the Silver Moon Plaza and approached the property owner about the idea of launching a store.
Ortiz stated, “Everything came into place to begin this here.” “The property owners were incredibly gracious and helpful, assuring us that we would be successful in our current location. I just requested that they give us a chance.
“Every day, Isabel comes up with new cupcake flavors, and we always have customer favorites on hand,” he stated. “Isabel also makes authentic French-style macarons in rare and delectable flavors.” We are continually looking for innovative strategies to attract clients.”
In addition, the duo bakes unique cakes.
“One cake of which Isabel was particularly pleased was a Playstation-shaped cake, complete with controller,” added Ortiz. “We never learned this in school. Isabel has learned everything by trial and error.”
Vasquez stated that having her husband’s support in this endeavor is invaluable.
She remarked, “It’s difficult job.” “When I begin to question myself, he is always present and quite encouraging. We collaborate flawlessly. In addition, he is often asking me to show him how to do things so he can assist.
