Though Twitter CEO Elon Musk promised that some of the social media platform’s code would become open source on March 31, the company reportedly reached out to GitHub after learning that portions of its source code had been leaked online via GitHub-operated systems, according to a New York Times report citing court documents.
Twitter codes were disclosed
According to reports, Twitter urged GitHub to remove the compromised code, which the business did. In addition, the social media business wished to identify the culprit, as the release of the codes reportedly violated its copyright policy.
Artists challenge AI in court
Artists have attacked artificial intelligence services that enable users to make images in their style within seconds. A group of artists launched a class action complaint earlier this year against the artificial intelligence (AI) businesses DreamUp, Midjourney, and Steady Diffusion, which allow users to make artwork by inputting text instructions. The artists said that they were not paid for the usage of their work in AI model training data sets.
A team from the University of Chicago has created software known as “Glaze” to assist artists in preventing their works from being analyzed by artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. Yet, this may not be sufficient for human artists.
Smartphone vendors report shipment declines
According to a survey by Counterpoint Research, shipments from Original Design Manufacturers of leading Chinese smartphone manufacturers have decreased. The company reported that in 2022, smartphone shipments from original design manufacturers and/or independent design houses fell by 5% annually.
In its Global Smartphone ODM Tracker and Report, the research firm attributed the decline in shipments to the current economic climate as well as a decrease in demand from Europe and China. In 2022, however, the market share of outsourced-designed shipments increased in comparison to the previous year. Longcheer, Huaqin, and Wingtech improved their market share to become the top three firms overall.
